RAMADAN IS OVER, WHAT’S NEXT?

Equip yourself against shaytan’s ‘heart attack’!

Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam said, “The heart of the person who remains awake (in ibadat), desirous of attaining the promised rewards from Allah Ta’ala, during the night of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha will not die on the day when (spiritual) hearts  will be dead.” [Ibn Majah #1782] ‘The day when hearts will be dead’, refers to the era wherein people will be entangled in havoc and sin. This explanation perfectly matches the pitiful state of affairs unfolding before our eyes daily. Hence, by simply practicing on this hadith, Allah Ta’ala promises to keep our spiritual hearts steadfast on His Deen when Shaytan will be launching his ‘deadly attacks’ on our ‘spiritual hearts’. Just as how we encouraged one another to join in and to keep the musjids lively during Ramadan, let us extend this blessed lively atmosphere to just one more night! That is, by spending this auspicious night in ibadat and abstaining from all types of sin especially that of gheebat!

ETIQUETTE TO BE OBSERVED ON THE DAY OF EID

¨ To rise early on the Eid morning. Doing so will spur one to be more alert and cheerful on this joyous day. [Hashiyatut Tahtawi p.530]

¨ It is sunnah to bath on this day before the Eid Salah. However if one bathes before the Fajr Salah, this will also be acceptable. [Hashiyatut Tahtawi p.530]

¨ To dress according to the sunnah, ensuring that the trouser is well above the ankles (for males). To wear the best clothes one possesses and not necessarily new. However, if new clothes are obtained, it should first be worn on a Friday. When Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam obtained new clothing, he would first wear it on a Friday (even if it was for a few moments and then removed it). This was done due to Friday being the most virtuous day of the week. In this way, the clothing as well as the one wearing the garment will be blessed. [Muntahas Sool v.1,p.490 ]

¨ To set off early for the Eid Salah. It is greatly encouraged that one performs the Eid Salah in the Eid Ghah. However, if due to some excuse such as illness, old age etc. one may join the salah in the Musjid

¨ As far as possible, one should endeavor to walk to the Eid Salah if it is within walking distance. Different routes should be chosen when approaching and returning from the Eid Salah. One should engage in reciting the takbeer of Eid silently on route to the Eid Salah until arrival at the Eid Ghah. Besides the act of walking to the Eid Ghah being meritorious, it creates a deep impression on the hearts of the onlookers (non believers) when they observe the beauty and serenity of Islam.  Encourage one another to walk to the Eid Ghah!

PERMANENT SECURITY AGAINST SHAYTAN IN THE FUTURE

Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam once enquired from the Sahabah radi allahu anhum , “Should I not inform you of such acts which would expiate your sins and elevate your ranks (in Jannah)? “Yes, of course, O Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam” was the enthusiastic reply from the Sahabah radi allahu anhum. Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam then stated, “This is achieved by performing a perfect wudu despite facing unfavorable conditions (such as inclement weather, cold water, sickness etc.), taking many steps to the musjid and anticipating the next salah after having performed one. (This reward will be received irrespective of one being in the business place or involved in any other activity between the two salahs). Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam then mentioned, “These acts constitute your security! These acts constitute your security!” (i.e. in spite of being so meritorious as well). This is a divine formula from our Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam to maintain and improve our spiritual condition after Ramadan. By firmly practicing on this hadith, we will be secure against the wicked schemes of Shaytan forever. [Sahih Muslim #251]
